Zard Share Account

A Zard Share Account can be opened individually or joint with a parent, grandparent, or other responsible individual, as long as the teen is eligible for membership. The “share” represents the teen’s share of ownership in SECU, just like a regular Share Account.

Zard Checking Account

Zard lets teens control their money with access to a Checking Account and a Zard Visa® Debit Card for purchases and ATM transactions.

  • A joint account with a parent, grandparent, or other responsible adult is required for members under the age of 18

  • Individual accounts are available for members ages 18-19 years old

  • Account automatically converts to regular SECU Checking Account when the owner turns 20 years old

What is needed to open an account

To open an account, visit your local branch or contact Member Services Support to request an account opening by mail. The following documentation is required for account opening:

  • Taxpayer Identification Number (SSN, ITIN, or EIN)

  • Proof of identity (government issued photo ID, Social Security card, or birth certificate) may be required

  • Applicable documentation for proof of eligibility

  • Initial deposit via cash or check

Life insurance coverage at no cost

Teen Zard account holders are eligible to receive $1,000 of Group Term Life Insurance at no cost.

This coverage can be increased to $10,000 for $18 per year by:
  • A teen, if 15 years or older

  • A parent or legal guardian on the teen’s behalf if the teen is under the age of 15
